WHAT'S NEW!

Permanent AVID microchip identification has recently been addded for your cats and dogs.  Ask about this inexpensive and potentially life saving service.  A collar and tag can come off or be removed, but a microchhip is there forever.

We have a  technology that allows us to record and transmit an electrocardiogram(ECG) directly to a Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologist?  There are many indications for having an ECG run on your pet, including:  heart murmurs, weakness, shortness of breath, irregular heart beats, breathing disorders, and screening for heart disease before anesthesia.  The main advantage of this technology is the ability to get a specialist's opinion without needing to make a trip to see one.  We are also able to make a more accurate diagnosis of heart disease, allowing us to devise a more precise treatment plan.  This technology has benefited many of our current patients.

We have a complete, in house, laboratory that allows us to run blood tests and have the vital information they provide within a few minutes, rather than a few days, as with an outside lab.  Time is often critical when deciding a plan that best suits your pets treatment needs.  Our lab allows us to meet those needs.

We have a state-of-the-art electrocautery unit to help minimize bleeding during surgery.

We use a patented system for cranial cruciate rupture repair in dogs.

We  only use isoflurane gas anesthetic machines.  Isoflurane gas allows us to rapidly make adjustments to an animal's anesthesia and is generally considered the safest available anesthetic.

We always use a heart and respiratory monitor as well as a digital pulse oximeter to help ensure your pet's safety during an anesthetic procedure.

We use a video otoscope that allows you to see the inside of your pet's ear canal on a television monitor, enabling you to better understand the disease process.

We, at Pet Haven Veterinary Clinic, will continue to keep our practice updated with the latest technologies in order to provide the best possible care for your pets.

Many have had questions regarding health insurance for your pets.  Believe it or not, many options are available to you.  We have thoroughly researched the various companies out there, and have come to the conclusion that Veterinary Pet Insurance is the best protection available.  VPI was founded by a veterinarian in 1982.  Many plans are available, including plans for routine vaccines, heartworm and flea preventative. The company is not an HMO--so your pet gets the care he/she needs, including specialist visits.  This coverage helps prevent the heartbreaking decision between your pocketbook and your pet.  VPI can be reached at 1-800-USA-PETS or visit www.petinsurance.com.

We  recommend Frontline Plus as your flea and tick preventative.  Frontline is a combination of a proven adult parasite killer and an insect growth regulator(IGR).  It is the only product of its kind that kills 99-100% of adult fleas within one day while stopping the development of new fleas.  It is also the only product that kills ALL stages of common types of ticks.

Frontline plus is safe for cats and dogs over 8 weeks of age, will not wash off with water, and is fully guaranteed by its parent company, Merial.   It also carries the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.  For more information, check out http://www.frontline.com.

Please remember to keep your pets on heartworm preventative as well.  We see heartworms year around. This devastating disease can infest both cats and dogs.  It is expensive to treat, but very inexpensive to prevent.

We are excited about a  heartworm preventative for cats called, REVOLUTION.  This medication, like Frontline, is a once a month topical that prevents and controls flea infestations.  But, Revolution also prevents EARMITES, SCABIES, HOOKWORM,  ROUNDWORM, and deadly HEARTWORM infestations in cats.  A recent price reduction has made it very economical.  This medication is highly recommended for cats that venture outdoors.  For more information, go to www.revolutionpet.com
